Spouting Cylinder: Torricelli's Theorem


Purpose

Students will investigate the relationship of a fluid's depth and ejected velocity and eventually transform Bernoulli's equation into Toricelli's Law.

Discussion
The water pressure increases with the depth, h. This affects the velocity v of the ejected water which is found by measuring the distance x to which it is projected. If the water level is kept constant, how exactly will depth affect velocity?
